ENGLISH as an ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (EAL)

We have a number of pupils for whom English is an additional language(designated as EAL). Mrs Grace, a qualified language teacher, provides support for individuals or small groups of children, to help them in the early stages of learning English, until their confidence and vocabulary develop.

ROSARY CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Set in extensive grounds, tucked away on Beeches Green in Stroud, our school is a Catholic Voluntary Academy, with a strong Christian ethos. However, we welcome all families, whatever their faith or background.

We are a happy, caring learning community, with a fantastic team of hard working staff. The children are eager to learn and proud of their school and we are all very proud of them!

Our school has one class per year group and offers a creative and engaging curriculum. There is a Breakfast & After School Club run by BarBar Nursery on our site, if you require child care.

We hope you enjoy the virtual tour of our school and find what you are looking for. However, the best way to really get a feel for the Rosary School is to come and see for yourself.

A socially distanced personal tour can be arranged by contacting the school office (01453) 762774 or by emailing head@rosary.gloucs.sch.uk

MRS ROSY SAVORY
HEADTEACHER

Mrs Savory has been Headteacher at the Rosary School for 13 years.

She thinks one of the best things about being a Headteacher, (apart from a swivelly chair in her office), is being able to make a difference to children’s lives.

Her favourite quotation is: “To teach is to touch a life forever”.

Welcome
ROSARY CATHOLIC
PRIMARY SCHOOL

MR GREED
YEAR SIX

Mr Greed is the Subject Leader for Physical Education (P.E.) and he loves all things active!
Mr Greed is the Year 6 teacher this year.

This is his second year at the Rosary School. His motto is “If you can dream it, you can do it!”

Year 6, the last year of primary school is a time of transition for your child. Not only are they having to get their head around the impending move to secondary school, but they are also experiencing some major physical and emotional changes as they head towards adolescence.

Although the children have to sit formal SATs tests towards the end of the year, we aim to keep the main sources of pressure down.

After SATs, under normal circumstances, the children experience a residential educational visit, which really develops their independence and provides plenty of personal challenge.

It is a great way for the class to round off their time together in primary school, feeling proud of their achievements, as they prepare for the move to secondary school.

We miss them when they ‘fly the nest’, but give them a good send off, with ceremony, celebration and fun!

FOREST SCHOOL

We are fortunate to be able to offer Forest School sessions at the Rosary School for all our year groups. Our school grounds are a great resource to help foster a love of the natural world in our pupils. The children enjoy the space almost all year round and see how nature transforms across all seasons.

Outdoor learning is a specialist, cross-curricular provision, designed to enable all the pupils to have the opportunity to engage in activities based on a particular theme and embed or extend classroom learning.

The children learn a lot from these outdoor lessons and develop their teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.

DOLLY
OUR SCHOOL DOG

School Dogs benefit children’s cognitive development as they provide companionship and provide children with opportunities to use their developing social skills.

School dogs improve emotional well-being, helping children develop compassion and respect and reducing feelings of anxiety. Our pupils also learn how to nurture and care for another living thing, and Dolly can be offered as a comfort to children who are sad, dealing with some big emotions, or in need of developing self-esteem.

Cockapoos are child-friendly, fun-loving, gentle, affectionate and sensitive dogs. Dolly has been coming into school from a young age. She is extremely popular within the school community and is well-behaved.

Introducing Dolly a year ago into life at the Rosary School strengthened our feeling of community and closeness. She continues to do so on a daily basis.
If parents prefer their children not to have contact with Dolly, we are more than happy to accommodate this.

MRS LIBER
Special Educational Needs (SEN) Manager

We are an inclusive school and are aware that some children have difficulty accessing the curriculum fully. We aim to identify early those children who have special educational needs, in accordance with the SEN Code of Practice.

To address any issues and help them to make good progress, we meet the needs of SEN pupils through individual or small group programmes of work and differentiated tasks in class, planned by class teachers, our SENCO and SEN Manager and where appropriate, with support from outside agencies.

We pride ourselves in a whole school approach to supporting children with additional learning needs or disabilities, supporting them to be the best they can - spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Year 5 children are entering upper Key Stage 2 and developing into great role models to the younger children. This new sense of responsibility and feeling grown up is something they enjoy.

Year 5 children can use their maturity to work on and lead others in school improvement projects, for example through the Eco Schools accreditation programme and Chaplaincy.

In Year 2, children are reaching the end of Key Stage One and will become increasingly independent at school, able to cope with more focussed learning, ready for the move up to Key Stage Two (or juniors).

Towards the end of the Year 2, the teacher will undertake some tests with the children, which will inform her judgement on whether the children have reached the age related expectations for the end of Key Stage One. This process is known as KS1 SATs. The tests are carried out in a very low-key way, so there is nothing to be anxious about

YEAR ONE

Mrs Phillips is Subject Leader for Science and has worked at the school for over 10 years. Mrs Phillips loves that Science enables children to explore ideas and gain understanding through practical ‘hands on’ experiences and enquiry.

Mrs Hannon leads Personal Social & Health Education, as well as Relationships and Sex Education and the School Chaplaincy team. She has worked here for 4 years. Mrs Hannon says the best thing about teaching is that “no two days are ever the same!”

Mrs Hannon and Mrs Phillips work closely together teaching Year 1 this year, as a job share arrangement.

In Year 1, there is a transition from the Early Years curriculum to more formal teaching in Key Stage One. Children begin to follow the National Curriculum.

Parents will be able to begin using the SeeSaw app to keep the lines of communication open between school and home, so support can be provided where it is needed at this crucial early stage.

MISS PERKIN
RECEPTION CLASS

Miss Perkin is the Subject Leader for Computing and Geography.

Miss Perkin is teaching in Reception this year. She has worked at the Rosary School for 8 years. Her motto is “sharing is caring” and she uses this often to help younger children to learn to share ideas and equipment.

Our Reception class is specifically laid out to allow children to access the Early Years areas of leaning.
Reception children learn through explorative play, construction, investigation, mark-making, being creative and spending time in the book corner, where they can enjoy a quiet story.

Children also have access to an outdoor area with sand play, a mud kitchen, a driving track and climbing/balance equipment, as well as lots of other fun and educational toys. This area provides a safe and enclosed space for our Reception children to take part in outdoor and messy play and begin to learn the basics of working and playing safely alongside their friends. It has a large, covered section for wet weather.
